Test Launches Summary
Sept 2022 - June 2023
FAR Competition Launch
(April 2, 2023)
Successfully launched and recovered Star Queen II with Friends of Amateur Rocketry (FAR) in the Mohave Desert, CA.
12 000 ft apogee
GPS tracking
Live radio video feed
Test Launch 2
(April 16, 2023)
Spent the first night working with the recruits to prepare their L1 rockets
Drilled screw and vent holes
Packed parachutes
Ran flight simulations using the final mass of the rocket
Drilled motor delay charges (to time the parachute near apogee)
Assisted in mounting the sensor suite the recruits had designed
At the launch site, I managed the recruits in assembling their rockets and getting them ready for inspection
Assisted with Star Queen preparations for its first flight test.
Was in charge of arming the live and local video feed
Installed the air brake (which doubles as a body couple)
Star Queen’s test flight was an overall success. The flight path was stable,
Star Queen got stuck in some trees during this test
We could not recover the rocket ourselves since the trees were 50 feet tall.
The rocket could not be cut down since it would require at least a week to do the job. The farmer would then have to ship the parts to us. They would likely arrive after the end of the school year and would be damaged by rain.
Star Queen II began construction after this test
Test Launch 1
(April 2, 2023)
Led the assembly team in preparing the rocket.
Successfully performed two recovery ground tests
