Recruits

Recruitment Co-Director

Jan 2023 - June 2023

As Recruitment Co-Director, I had 5 new members under my responsibility. I developed their curriculum to engage their passion, develop their rocketry knowledge, and prepare them for next year’s project.

Their mission for the next 4 months: Build five fiberglass Punisher model rockets, successfully launch and recover them, and obtain the Level 1 High Powered Rocketry Certification. They also must obtain telemetry data using an electronics bay they design.

We successfully launched, recovered, and obtained L1 Certifications for 4 out of 5 rockets! This year, 3 of 4 subteam leads were recruits that I mentored.

My Contributions as Recruitment Co-Director:

  • I guided the recruits in learning key concepts in rocketry like:

    • Center of gravity

    • Center of pressure

    • Total/specific impulse

    • Drogue and main parachutes

    • Solid vs hybrid vs liquid rocket motors/engines

    • Telemetry

    • Ejection charges

    • Epoxy and fiberglass handling

    • Much more!

  • I introduced them to software like OpenRocket, Solidworks CAD, Solidworks FEA tool, etc.

  • I managed the recruitment finances, keeping on budget while providing them with everything they needed.

  • I organized meetings to ensure weekly goals were met and that collaboration between members was encouraged.
